DENSO Injector QR Codes and ECU Registration

Learn where to find DENSO injector compensation codes, how QR markings differ from part numbers, and what to verify before ECU registration or recoding.

For a DENSO injector that requires compensation coding, obtain the correct supplied code and register it to the vehicle ECU using the procedure for that application. DENSO's replacement warning identifies the printed ID on the injector's upper section and specifies OEM or DENSO diagnostic equipment. The practical questions are: which marking contains the required information, which injector is installed in each cylinder, and does this job involve reading an existing code or creating new calibration data after repair?

QR marking, compensation code, part number: what is the difference?

DENSO's common rail service manual describes QR markings containing injection correction data alongside identification information. It separately identifies the readable injector ID used for ECU registration. A scanned QR payload therefore should not automatically be treated as the exact text expected by a diagnostic entry field. When recording an injector, photograph the whole marking area and label each field separately. This is more useful than a cropped photograph containing an unexplained string of characters.

Where do you get the correct DENSO injector code?

For an individually coded replacement, start with the supplied injector marking and its accompanying documentation. Keep that information with the job card before installation makes the marking harder to inspect. For an unreadable marking or missing paperwork, ask the supplier to establish the correct information from the unit's identity and supply record. Do not guess a missing character.

A remanufactured injector also needs a clear documentation trail. DENSO Australia's published remanufactured-injector guidance states that its units are supplied with an individual ID for ECU registration. That supports asking the repairer for the code applicable to the delivered injector, rather than assuming the old housing marking remains authoritative after repair. Do all DENSO injectors have an individual QR calibration code?

No single rule covers every generation, application and aftermarket range. DENSO's 2026 bulletin 01-DSL-2026-EU-Non-BER describes specific independent-aftermarket injectors for named non-BER markets that have no individual QR calibration code and instead include their compensation instructions in the box. DENSO Australia's FAQ also explains that certain IAM injectors with the same part number share a compensation code. If that description matches the supplied product, confirm the instructions with its supplier; do not extend the exception to individually calibrated OE or remanufactured injectors. What changes between replacement, repair and ECU work?

Use this table to decide what evidence to request before accepting the job:

For example, Delphi's guidance for the Toyota D-4D applications it lists requires injector codes after replacement and all injector codes when replacing the control unit. This is application evidence, not a universal procedure for every DENSO-equipped engine. Delphi Toyota D-4D programming guide.

A registration checklist for the workshop

This is a planning checklist, not a substitute for the vehicle's service instructions:

  1. Identify the application. Record the vehicle, engine, ECU and installed injector part numbers. Confirm that the replacement is correct before considering its code.
  2. Keep a cylinder map. Associate every injector with its actual cylinder using the manufacturer's numbering convention. Do not assume the order on the workbench matches engine numbering.
  3. Prepare the information. Keep photographs, supplied instructions and previous diagnostic records together. Resolve conflicting labels with the supplier before programming.
  4. Confirm the diagnostic function. Check support for this vehicle and ECU, including the required software version and any prescribed preconditions.

  6. Close the job with evidence. Save the registration result and record completion of any separately required learning and post-installation checks.

Can an injector test bench generate a new DENSO QR code?

Ask about three distinct capabilities: testing the injector, producing valid correction data where supported, and registering that information to a vehicle ECU. A supplier should identify which of these its equipment provides for your exact injector.

DENSO WAVE describes QR as a means of encoding data. The practical consequence is that generating a QR picture represents supplied information; it does not measure injector behaviour or establish a repaired injector's individual calibration. Frequently asked questions

Can I use a phone to read the QR code?

A readable scan can help capture the marking, but it does not perform ECU registration or prove that the decoded text matches the required input format. Use the application-specific service workflow.

How many characters should the code contain?

Use the format specified for that injector and vehicle. Do not pad, truncate or alter a code to make it fit a different diagnostic screen.

Does successful coding prove the injector is healthy?

No. Registration is not a hydraulic test. DENSO's replacement guidance treats coding, cleanliness and return-flow checks as separate concerns. Persistent rough running or warning lights require diagnosis rather than repeated code changes. DENSO injector replacement guidance.
